Keep It Simple Stupid (K.I.S.S.) This site was purposely "dumbed down" in order to accommodate the widest array of users. By not adding all the bells & whistles available, the Web pages load quickly and accurately.

This site was built using Microsoft FrontPage 2003.  Metadata was added to all my Web pages through FrontPage's Page Properties window, and I augmented the existing metadata with Dublin Core (DC) metadata.  Using the Nordic Metadata Project's Dublin Core Metadata Template, I easily created DC metadata without memorizing the schema's syntax.  In addition to DC metadata, I have added metadata to every image on my Web site (including those posted to my blog/Flickr).  I used Adobe's extensible Metadata Platform (XMP) which utilizes the IPTC image metadata schema.  A key advantage of using XMP-based metadata is portability.  TIFF and JPEG image formats retain the metadata even if the image is moved to another system.

You can add XMP metadata easily and economically to your images too! Instead of using Adobe Photoshop 7.x or CS, I use Pixvue.  Pixvue is free, and it is a relatively small program.  One disadvantage of Pixvue is that it runs on Windows only (sorry Linux -- maybe there's a hack out there ;-)  I've used Pixvue for a year now, and I can not say enough good things about it. So, definitely check it out (see below).

Finally, I've purposely not used frames or tables in order to make my Web site American Disabilities Act (ADA) friendly. Instead, I have employed Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) to standardize the format of the text as well as the layout.  Furthermore, I've ensured that all images and rollovers have alternative text. This allows text-to-speech programs to "read" the picture (i.e. read the content I provide as a surrogate for the picture).

I hope you enjoy my Web site.  If you would like to know more about the Dublin Core Metadata Initiative (DCMI), the Nordic Metadata Project's Dublin Core Metadata Template, Adobe's XMP, and/or Pixvue, please click the respective link(s) below.
